Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health, Tawfiq al-Rabiah has announced today, Wednesday 16th, December 2020, that the country has received the first shipment of the Covid-19 vaccine.
This ensued after Saudi Arabia earlier approved the use of the Vaccine which was developed by Pfizer, a United State Pharmaceutical giant, and their German partner, BioNTech.
The Minister of health while announcing the arrival of the Vaccine, he said
I am happy to inform everyone, citizens and residents, of the arrival of the first shipment of the vaccine this morning
The country had earlier announced and opened the door for registration on Tuesday, by which citizens would register through a mobile app that was developed for the sake of social distancing.
Minister of Health, Al-Rabiah, also said that more than 100,000 people have already registered for the vaccine through the mobile app. He elongated that the benefits of the vaccine also goes to Health workers, people suffering from chronic diseases, their citizens, foreigners, as well as Old people aged 65 and above.
The Arabian country, which boasts of a 34million population, has recorded more than 330,000 coronavirus cases, and over 5000 deaths.
